kicking and punching to Semifinals
By: Marcos | May 18th, 2008
Cruz Azul might just become the most unintentionally violent team of the Mexican Primera Division. Punches were thrown earlier in the season againts America and once again today in the quarter final bout with Jaguares.
Cruz Azul fought hard to recover from the one nil defeat they had suffered on Wednesday but it was to no avail in the first forty five minutes. The second half started with a downer when Itamar scored a soul crushing goal that seemed to send Cruz Azul to an early grave. Amazingly, in the matter of three minutes, Cruz Azul was able to score the tying goal thankfully from Zeballos and a minute later we were celebrating the goal that was sending us to the semifinals.
Unfortunately the game became rigid and violent as time went on and continued until Jaguares decided to violently attack the Cruz Azul sqaud because of a rightly given red card. Chaos ensued and it was an embarrassment to see that a professional squad could not contend with defeat. It did not seem that any of the players from Cruz Azul pulled any punches but the likeliness of some players getting banned from playing semifinals is likely as this happened againts America.
The next semifinal is undecided but it won’t be easy as it might be Santos, the most popular pick for the championship now that Chivas are out. WOOT! Always hated those goats but it is kind of a bummer that a 1st seed can get knocked out by a tenth seed in two games. The dramatism makes people fill up the stadiums but I would not call the liguilla a democratic method of winning.
